How To Create Your Perfect Staycation

Memorial Day has come and gone, which means it’s officially the unofficial start of summer.

Many people take vacations this time of year. However, most young people, for whatever reason, have a very difficult time affording such an extravagance. The practical response: a staycation.

The most important rule of a staycation is to actually mimic an actual vacation. It’s not a chance to catch up on household chores and random side projects that piled up during the last few months.

It’s also not an excuse to do things like workout or watch TV. Basically, don’t spend your staycation like you would a standard weekend. The main point is to still spend a little money, by exploring or treating yourself to things in your area.

What To Do

First off, if you wouldn’t cook during a vacation, you sure aren’t going to be cooking now. Now is a perfect chance to go to every single nice restaurant within a twenty minute radius. Okay, maybe not a nice restaurant, but all the ones you’ve always wanted to go to but didn’t feel like spending the money. Go with your roommate, partner, friends or family. Yelp is your friend if there are lots of choices, like if you live in a major metropolitan city.

Another great option is to do typical vacation things that happen to be nearby. An amusement park or hitting the beach are obvious choices that you probably don’t have a lot of time for normally. Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you can’t still go to the beach on a nice day and read the latest summer hit. Other popular ideas: a hike, nature trail or park.

The last thing required of any staycation is to visit as many tourist spots as possible. Visit every single location attraction that you normally steer clear of. For example, most New Yorkers avoid Times Square. People in Florida likely don’t go out during spring break. It might seem like a waste of time, but there’s a reason why people flock to those places.

There’s really no shortage of things to do right where you live. It’s just a matter of swallowing your pride long enough to go to the local hotspots you think you’re too cool for or don’t have the time to frequent.
