From Kim Kardashian’s derriere to Jeremy Meeks handsome mugshot, the Web sure had a lot to buzz about in 2014.  We are counting down the Top 10 strange, bizarre, exciting and most talked about moments to take the Internet by storm this year in no particular order.

Ice Bucket Challenge
Unless you aren’t on Facebook, there is no way you didn’t at least see, if not partake in the Ice Bucket Challenge.

The challenge, which raises awareness for ALS–Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis–also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, was meant to show how immobilizing the disease can be. It really started off in June when the cast of Morning Drive, which airs on the Golf Channel, took on the challenge. From there it blew up. Celebrities and friends flooded our newsfeeds with challenges asking to participate by dumping a bucket of ice water over your head or donate, or both.

Most Retweeted Selfie
All the way back in March, Ellen Degeneres decided she wanted to set a new record while she was hosting the Oscars. She walked out into the audience and gathered up a bunch of a-list celebrities to take what would be, the most epic selfie yet. The photo now has more than 300 million retweets and more than 2 million favorites. According to Entertainment Weekly the photo that previously held this record was President Barack Obama’s “Four More Years” message on the night of his re-election.

Adele Dazeem
What, you don’t know who Adele Dazeem is? Well neither to we. Maybe John Travolta can clue us in. John royally messed up Idina Menzel’s name while announcing her performance at the Oscars. She was about to perform “Let it Go” from “Frozen.” After the mess up, the Internet exploded with memes and programs such as the one at Slate.com that allowed you to “Travolitify” your name.

Kim K. Breaks The Internet
From her much anticipated wedding to her adorable daughter, Kim Kardashian has been the talk of the tabloids this past year. But what brought the Internet to it’s knees was Kim’s photoshoot with Paper Magazine winter issue. At first the magazine released a modest shot of Kim balancing a champagne glass on her rear end. What really got the blogosphere talking was the photoshoot that followed. It featured Kim baring it all for everyone to see.

Jeremy Meeks
Jeremy Meeks, who became known as the “Hot Felon,” was brought to fame by the Stockton California police department in June. His chiseled features got recognition with male model rumors flying. Since then however, U.S. Attorney Spokeswoman Lauren Horwood said that on Nov. 6 Jeremy pled guilty to one count of illegal firearm possession, according to the MTV website.

#Sochiproblems
With the excitement of the Winter Olympics also came the live tweets from journalists about what a mess behind the scenes were. From half finished hotels to poor water conditions, there was nothing journalists feared to share. A Twitter account was even created, which according to Time Magazine, surpassed the amount of followers the official Sochi Winter Olympics account had.

It seems like every year a few celebrity nude photos are released but this year the hackers took it to a whole new level leaving everyone outraged. This was one of the biggest nude photo leaks to date, targeting celebs like Jennifer Lawrence and Gabrielle Union. The FBI launched an investigation into the incident.

Jay-Z, Solange Elevator Fight
After a Met Gala after party, Solange Knowles, Beyonce’s sister, picked a fight with her brother-in-law, Jay-Z in an elevator. TMZ got hold of the footage and made the decision to share it. The family later released this statement, “Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”

Potato Salad
What started as a joke ended up raising more than $55,000. An Ohio man created a kickstarter fundraiser to raise $10 to make his first potato salad. There are currently more than 6,911 backers. By pledging $110 the pledgee would receive “THE PLATINUM POTATO: Receive the recipe book, the shirt and the hat along with a bite of the potato salad, a photo of me making the potato salad, a ‘thank you’ posted to our website and I will say your name out loud while making the potato salad,” according to the kickstarter page. The project was successfully funded by Aug. 2.

Hello Kitty Is Not Really A Cat
Our minds were collectively blown when it was announced that Hello Kitty was not actually a cat but a human girl. Christine R. Yano, the author of “Pink Globalization: Hello Kitty’s Trek Across the Pacific,” revealed to The Los Angeles Times that “”Hello Kitty is not a cat. She’s a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She’s never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature.” According to Christine, she is a young british third-grade girl, she has a twin and loves apple pie. However, Sanrio Toyko headquarters told Kotaku that saying she wasn’t a cat wasn’t quite right either. “Hello Kitty was done in the motif of a cat,” the company said. “It’s going too far to say that Hello Kitty is not a cat. Hello Kitty is a personification of a cat.”
