Ways To Bring Autumn Into Your Home or Dorm

Although it may feel like fall outside, sometimes it’s hard to get in the seasonal spirit when your place still is decorated for summer.

Part of the fun of the fall is prepping your place for the holiday season—here are some simple ways to make a smooth transition.

Stock up on fall-scented candles. They are just about everywhere you turn from Bath and Body Works to Kohl’s.

It’s hard to walk into any of these types of stores without spotting their candle displays stocked with fall-scented candles. Anything with apples or pumpkins? Yes, please.

If you are looking to decorate but are on a budget, look no further than OneSpot (also known as the dollar section) at Target. Everything in this section of the store is priced from $1 to $3. During this time of year, you can find everything from miniature candles to stuffed pumpkins to fall-themed pillows.

If you are a craft lover, don’t be afraid to make your own decor. Here’s one idea just about anyone will be able to do.

DIY Pinecone Garland

While out on a walk or hiking, look for pinecones that have fallen to the ground. Collect as many as you want in order to create pinecone garland. You’ll also need twine, gold spray paint, screw eye hooks, and pliers.

  1. Begin by making sure your pinecones are clean, especially if you collected them outside. Rinse them under water to get the dirt off and let them air dry.
  2. Once they are dry, simply spray paint the pinecones with the gold paint. Make sure to do this in an open airy area as you don’t want to breathe in too many of the paint fumes.
  3. When the paint has dried, use your pliers to screw the hooks into the base of the pinecone and tie the twine around the hooks. You’ll have beautiful fall decor in no time.

If crafts aren’t necessarily your thing, there’s plenty more you can do to get your place ready for fall.

Possibly the easiest way to transform your space is buying new blankets to snuggle up in and festive throw pillows. You really can’t go wrong with a good sweater blanket. If you tend to run cold, don’t be afraid to invest in a heated blanket—it will change your life. As for the throw pillows, find something fall related or, more specifically, Halloween and/or Thanksgiving related. This time of year, stores like Kohl’s and Target have so many to choose from.

Getting your place ready for fall can be exciting and is a great way to show off your decorating style. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to think outside the box.
