Happy 2015!
At the start of a new year I like to make goals, not resolutions. Some could argue they’re the same thing, and maybe they are, but if I make resolutions, I know I wouldn’t stay motivated enough to keep them. Goals, however, I can hang onto a little bit longer.
I decided a few months ago that 2015 would be the year for me to become the best version of myself and take control of my health. Though my health has always been a concern of mine, I’ve kind of always taken it for granted and assumed I was healthy enough. I mean I’m only 23, so I’m young and healthy, right? Not exactly.
In 2014, I gained weight, got access to my own health insurance and came to several realizations. One of those was obvious: I’m the youngest I’ll ever be right now. Another was the realization that I only get one body here on Earth and it’s up to me to take care of it. I have a history in my family of a variety of diseases and health problems including cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, high cholesterol, COPD and other things.
My specific goals in 2015 are basically being more conscious of what I eat, getting in better physical shape, getting (a lot!) more sleep and maintaining regular check-ups and appointments.
As far as being the best version of myself goes, I’m looking to make the next steps in my career.
What goals or resolutions are you making for 2015?
