Look out, ladies and gentlemen. A woman may finally be leading the United States. For decades, men have been running this country. We’ve had 43 presidents and all of them have been males.
Television and film have played with the idea of a female POTUS for a long time, but ever since Hillary Clinton announced her presidential bid back in April of this year, it may actually become a reality when 2016 comes around.
While Clinton announcing her candidacy is a big deal for women everywhere, it’s also important for men too. The topic of gender equality has been an issue and long time debate in the United States for generations. Clinton running for office pushes the feminism movement forward.
A woman running for office will teach men to appreciate and open their eyes to gender equality and will prove to men that women are just as capable at being leaders as they are. In a House that is overrun by mostly men, having a woman in charge will create a much-needed balance of control.
Right now, Clinton seems to be a top contender in the Democratic party, though it’s too soon to tell who the winner will be. It will be up to the citizens of the United States, both women and men, to decide if she will be the 44th president.
