It’s a big world out there, and there’s a lot going on in it.
In this crazy busy world, a lot of peoples’ lives are too hectic to allow them the time to sit down and read an actual newspaper or watch a full broadcast show anymore. If you don’t know how to keep up with current events, we’ve got some easy ways to find out what’s going on.
Use An App
Take a moment away from Instagramming and download an app to help you keep up with current events! Apps such as Flipboard (free in the Apple App Store) let you customize your pages, so you get the news you want. The only downside of customizing your news for you means that you may miss out on broader stuff, but it’s a good way to stay in-tune with the world around you while on the go. Many news outlets also have their own apps, which give you a non-customized but all-encompassing view of current events. These apps let you see all headlines, or choose from various topics to help narrow all that news down into manageable chunks.
Sign Up For An Email Service
Every morning you wake up and check your email, so wouldn’t it be great if there was a message in your inbox that gave you a summary of what happened around the world the day before? Email news services do just that! We like theSkimm, which puts big global and political events into simple, easy-to-read language that’s in your inbox by the time you wake up. USA Today and other news outlets also have daily email newsletters that will deliver the facts straight to your inbox, and a lot of times will send special alerts when something noteworthy happens so you can stay informed.
Watch (or Listen To!) a Daily Summary
If you like getting your information via podcasts or the radio, then a daily summary may be for you. ABC News has an hourly news pop that jams the past hour’s most important stories into one quick video that you can watch on your computer or mobile device. It’s updated every hour, so you can watch and catch up whenever you have a few spare moments. NPR has an hourly newscast that is also updated every hour, but is five minutes long and audio only.
Use Social Media
If you’re already constantly scrolling through your Facebook and Twitter feeds, why not use them to get a dose of world news along with your local gossip? Like or follow your favorite news stations on social media to get updates throughout the day. If you don’t want them clogging up your feeds, you can make a special list on Twitter just for those accounts, so you see them only when you want to.
