Why It’s OK To Be Single Today

In today’s modern society, women can be single and childless later than the age of 18.

This handy article from The Washington Post charts ages of marriage, childbirth and cohabitation of today’s generation. The results aren’t surprising. People are getting married way later in life.

So while “not married” isn’t quite single, it is a lot more freeing. Still, being single defies the idea that women should be married at a young age. But we don’t think that should be the case. We compiled a list of strong female celebs who have rocked being single.

Selena Gomez

Back in 2013 after splitting from Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez explained that she loved being single in an interview with Ryan Seacrest. “It’s been good for me to actually do it [my tour] all on my own this time. It’s been great for me to go without my parents and being single and being me, it’s been great.” Whether or not she is dating Justin again is unimportant. She was able to be single and find herself, one of the most important reasons to be alone.

Taylor Swift

There is perhaps one thing Taylor Swift has shown in recent months: how to go from the girl who had streams of men dying to be with her to the single bombshell destroying the music industry. This quote from Rolling Stone encapsulates her new perspective on relationships and dating: “I feel like watching my dating life has become a bit of a national pastime. And I’m just not comfortable providing that kind of entertainment anymore. I don’t like it when headlines read ‘Careful, Bro, She’ll Write a Song About You,’ because it trivializes my work.

” Swift has since surrounded herself with countless female friends.

Sandra Bullock

Being single doesn’t just apply to young, female pop stars. It also is a very relevant topic for middle-aged single mom Sandra Bullock. She told Entertainment Weekly that she’s happy to be single. Sure she would take a relationship if it came, but that’s hardly a priority. “But my son is 3 years old, which is an amazing age. Four is an even better age. So if something happens, great, but if not, I’ve got plenty to do,” she said. Being a mother and entertainment icon is certainly enough.

Mindy Kaling

In Mindy’s cover story for Flare, her relationship status is mentioned last. This is awesome because there’s so much more going on in her life than her lack of a relationship. A lot of the must-read story focuses on her hard work, her goals and her TV show.

So being single isn’t a bad thing. It gives you time to focus on your career and self care. That way, when and if you decide to be in a relationship, it’s healthy and the right time for you.
