Working out is good for us and is required to remain fit and healthy, but it can be difficult especially when there are weird side effects.
To help, we’ve broken down the super annoying side effects, along with ways to deal with them.
Itchy Legs
Itchy legs are a common side effect for individuals who are out of shape.
According to abouthealth.com, “When we exercise, the millions of tiny capillaries and arteries inside our muscles expand rapidly because of the demand for more blood. If we’re fit, these capillaries remain open allowing maximum blood passage, but, when unfit and inactive, they tend to collapse, allowing only minimal blood passage.” Unfortunately, this creates an itch and gives off the illusion that your skin is irritated when it’s actually internal. As hard is it may be, frequent exercise is the cure for itchy legs. Push through the itch and it will eventually go away.Red Face
Those darn capillaries are always causing trouble because they can also make your face turn red during a workout. They dilate and blood flows through them to push heat to the surface of the skin. This is done to keep your body cool, thus making your face a reddish color. Studies have shown that trained athletes have a redder face than untrained athletes. So, wear your red face proudly and show the world how fit you are!
Gas & Bloating
Gas and bloating can be quite embarrassing during a workout. The two main causes of this are drinking too much water and not getting enough sodium. You can also avoid gas and bloating by watching your dairy, artificial sweeteners and high fiber foods like broccoli before a workout. Peppermint and chamomile teas as well as gas treatments from the drugstore can help.
Wobbling
Ever feel like your body is doing the wobble when you exercise? We’ve been there too, especially when planking, and there are a few reasons why that could be happening. Pushing yourself too hard can put your body on overload. “In essence, the shaking indicates that you’re demanding more from your body than it’s normally capable of doing,” said Jenny Sugar of POPSUGAR. She also went to on to explain that this isn’t severe, but you will feel sore the next day. Dehydration and hunger can also cause wobbling, so make sure you’re getting enough water and you’re eating enough because your body needs fuel.
These side effects are extremely aggravating and make working out even harder than it already is, but some of these issues can be worked through and some can even be avoided. Don’t let them hinder you from getting fit and being active because exercise is essential for a healthy lifestyle.
