Though she began her professional career only five years ago playing Ethel Brown in the BBC’s Just William, British actress Lily James is set to take Hollywood by storm.
She’s best known for her role as Lady Rose MacClare in the popular series Downton Abbey, but Lily will star on the big screen for the first time in Disney’s remake of Cinderella. The film is a live-action revamp of the classic cartoon.
It follows the Disney film closely, but has a few plot twists to entertain new viewers as well as lovers of the original.A Dream Come True
Being a princess is a little girl’s dream come true and Lily was excited to land the part. “Playing a Disney princess is the most amazing, unbelievable thing…and on the other, it’s completely terrifying. I would say it’s a cocktail of every sort of emotion. Princesses are great role models, they teach you about grief, loss and have big hearts,” she told Glamour. She concluded her thoughts on the film by stating, “As cynical as I can be, there’s always a part of me that believes in love and the fairy tale. But what I like about this film is that Prince Charming doesn’t just rescue a damsel in distress—it’s about two people who make each other better. That’s the fairy tale.”
Our Generation’s Cinderella and Future Projects
Lily will serve as a new face of romance and fantasy for young viewers around the world experiencing the Cinderella story for the first time, making her a rising leader and soon-to-be prominent actress.
She is also working on another big-screen project: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which is set to be released later this year. Lily will also be in a currently untitled comedy drama film directed by John Wells. As for her television career, she will still star in Downton Abbey and the mini-series War and Peace.
