Milkmaid braids are taking the world by storm with their easy and unique look. They are super on-trend at the moment and they also keep your hair off your neck during the hot summer months, which gives them an A-plus in our book. With just four simple steps, you’ll be well on your way to rocking this new trend all summer long.
Step One
Prep your hair by brushing it thoroughly. Make sure you get rid of all knots and tangles, which will interfere with the braid. Rub in some leave-in conditioner or styling mousse to give your hair texture. Part your hair in the center so that it falls evenly on either side of your face.
Step Two
Braid both sides of your hair, and secure with a hairband. Start the braids down near your ears so you can easily twist them into place. For a breezier look, you can try loosening the braids slightly and adding texture with a comb, or leave the braids tight for a more traditional style.
Step Three
Pull one braid up toward the crown of your head. Secure the end with a bobby pin. Then pull the other braid up in the same way. Try to keep the angles the same so it looks even. You can hide the ends of each braid under the thicker part of the opposite side.
Step Four
Spray with hairspray and you’re good to go!
You can experiment with lots of different ways to do this style. Try parting your hair on one side, or leave the back of your hair down and use the braids as just a headband.
