Beauty products are wonderful, and can provide a multitude of benefits when used correctly.
But just how much product should you use? P&B has the lowdown for you.
Cleanser
A little can go a long way with cleanser. Just a dime-sized blob (or one pump of foaming cleanser) should be enough to wash away any dirt and grime from your face.
Face Serum
Face serums can be used for many reasons—to get rid of dark spots or to provide extra hydration, for example—and are often very potent. For that reason, only a few drops are needed, and they should be applied in a thin layer on freshly cleaned skin.
Moisturizer
To keep your skin moisturized without becoming greasy, slather on a blob the size of a nickel after washing.
Face Scrub
Though not necessary for a beauty routine, many people like the fresh feeling they get from a scrub. Use only a small dab to make sure that you don’t scratch your delicate facial skin.
Spot Treatment
Acne-fighting gels or any other spot treatments are super concentrated, so you only need a pea-sized amount to fight problem areas.
Sunscreen
Arguably the most important product in your beauty arsenal, it’s nearly impossible to wear too much sunscreen. Every day, apply a shot glass’ worth of SPF 15 or higher to exposed skin on your body, and at least a grape-sized dollop onto your face. If you’re going to be outside for an extended period of time, be sure to reapply, and use a higher SPF.
Shampoo
Too much shampoo can wreak havoc on your strands, and cause split ends, dryness, and more. Use only a quarter-sized amount for medium-length hair.
Conditioner
Just like shampoo, too much conditioner can cause problems. Using half a bottle won’t make your hair any more moisturized; it will just leave your hair greasy and weighed-down. Use a quarter-sized blob to keep hair fresh.
Hairspray
A light spray will keep your hair in place all day. Hold the can 12 inches away from your hair, and mist lightly just until it is covered. Not using as much will prevent your hair from looking greasy or weighed down.
Mousse
To give your hair body and bounce, work a golf-ball sized squirt through all of your hair.
Foundation
You don’t need to paint your entire face! Instead, only use foundation on the areas you need coverage. Blend it in with a brush or sponge to erase any lines and to make it look natural.
