Our Guide To Your First Holidays Together

So, you know it’s serious when the two of you can start spending the holidays together.

It is a big deal that should be talked about thoroughly before making any final decisions. Consider the timeline and how long you two have been dating. If you’ve been together for a few months but know it’s going down a serious path, then should you be spending the holidays together already?

Say you started dating in August, you could already be planning to spend Thanksgiving together. It’s all about when you start dating and how fast you’re moving.

With Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, here are some tips of the do’s and don’ts for those of you who plan on spending the holidays with your significant other or vice versa.

Do plan things ahead

We’ve emphasized that spending the holidays together for the first time is a big deal that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Do a lot of planning. If you are sure about spending the next holiday together, plan out what you will be doing. Will you be going to his family’s house? Is he going to yours? Is this the first time you’re meeting each other’s families? How long are you staying? If so, be prepared for scenarios with relatives and expect awkward questions.

Don’t be inconsiderate his friends or family

If it is the first time you are meeting his friends and family and you decide to go to his house for Thanksgiving, you’re most likely nervous and that’s natural. But no matter what, this is your first impression so make it a good and memorable one.

Do offer to help out as much as you can

If you’re trying to make a good impression, offer to help his parents or relatives with getting dinner ready or setting up around the house. It’s respectful and shows you’re willing to be a part of the family.

Don’t get too stressed out

It’s easy to get stressed out during the holidays especially if this is the first time spending it together. There’s a lot of pressure. However, if something happens that doesn’t exactly go your way, don’t make things worse by shutting down and being overly stressed.

Do stay positive

Relationships and the holiday season are already stressful enough on their own. No matter how stressed out you get, remember that you’re surrounded by your significant other and loved ones. Keep a positive attitude and all will go smoothly.
