How to Update Your Skincare Routine for Fall & Winter

You know that a new season means it’s time to change up your wardrobe, but did you also know that changing weather means you should change your skincare routine too? We have a few easy steps to getting your skin ready for fall.

Exfoliate

Hot summer sun and sweat may have left your skin in less-than-ideal condition.

Help bring a new layer of skin front and center by gently exfoliating. Look for a light scrub with natural exfoliating beads, such as Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub. Use two to three times a week to keep skin fresh without over drying.

Cleanse

Upgrade your daily cleanser to a less-harsh, creamy formula to keep skin clean but not dry. Cleanse twice a day with gentle circular motions and rinse with lukewarm water to avoid the drying effects of hot water.

Moisturize

As the temperature goes down outside, the heat gets cranked up indoors. Combat the dryness that usually accompanies cold weather and overheated houses by upgrading your summer facial lotion to a thicker moisturizer. Benefit Cosmetics Total Moisture Facial Cream seals in moisture for long after you apply it without feeling greasy, making it a good choice for dry and normal skin types.

Sunscreen

Just because the sun goes away doesn’t mean you should ditch your daily dose of SPF! UVA and UVB rays are just as much of a threat in the dead of winter as they are in the middle of summer, so be sure to slather on some sunscreen every morning before heading out. We love Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 for its all-natural sunscreens and lightweight feel. Plus the argan oil keeps your skin dewy and nourished too!

Pick Out Some New Makeup

Summer tans fade, so it’s time to find a new shade of foundation. Test out different formulas on your arm to match your skin tone and pay attention to how it feels when dry. Bonus points if you find a formula with built in SPF! When you find a foundation that you like, that blends into your skin, you’ll be good to go. Even if you don’t need a new shade, you should get new foundation every few months to avoid bacteria buildup, so do some fall cleaning in your makeup box and try some new products.

Show Your Hands & Lips Some Love

Your face isn’t the only part of your body that needs some extra TLC in the fall! Invest in a good hand moisturizer to avoid scaly knuckles, and slather on lip balm throughout the day to keep your pucker nice and smooth. At night, use heavier versions of your moisturizers and let them sink in overnight, so you wake up with supple hands and luscious lips.
