5 Breakfast Meals Under 10 Minutes

Taking time out of your morning to either sit down to have breakfast or to prepare something you can eat on the way to class or work will make a huge difference in how you feel for the rest of the day.

And no, scarfing down a bowl of cereal or munching on a granola bar doesn’t count.

We know that most students are cooking novices, so we’ve put together five simple breakfast ideas that can be made in under 10 minutes.

Eggs in a Basket

Ingredients:

  • Ezekiel Bread or Multigrain Bread
  • 1 Egg
  • Canola Oil Spray

Take a piece of Ezekiel bread or any other multigrain bread and cut a hole in the center of the slice using a glass. Next, spray a heated pan with canola oil spray and place the bread down. Crack the egg directly into the hole and flip it once the egg whites are no longer translucent.

You can also substitute Egg Beaters or just use the egg whites for this dish.

Triple Berry Parfait

Ingredients:

  • Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Frozen Bag of Mixed Berries
  • Granola, for topping

The night before, defrost about a cup and a half of mixed berries. In the morning, grab a tall glass and begin by putting a spoonful of berries at the bottom of the glass. Next, spoon some yogurt on top and then continue by alternating layers of yogurt and berries until you reach the top. Finally, add some granola on top for some crunch and a little extra pizzazz.

Toast with Almond Butter and a Tropical Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • Ezekiel Bread or Multigrain Bread
  • Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Frozen Bag of Tropical Fruits
  • 1 Banana, sliced
  • Mango Juice
  • Shredded Coconut Flakes (optional)
  • 1 Scoop of Protein Powder (optional)

Toast a slice of bread, then spread about a tablespoon of almond butter on the toast.

In a blender, throw in a cup of frozen fruit, one sliced banana, a half a cup of yogurt, a cup of mango juice and coconut flakes if you like them. You can also add a scoop of protein powder, then blend until smooth.

Breakfast Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • Thomas’ Plain Bagel Thins Bagels
  • Sliced Oven-Roasted Turkey
  • Baby Spinach
  • Swiss Cheese
  • Condiments (we recommend Dijon mustard)

Cut a bagel in half. On one half, layer turkey, a couple leaves of baby spinach, two slices of Swiss cheese and any condiments you like. Toast in a convection oven for three and a half to four minutes or until the bagel is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Southwestern Scrambled Eggs

Ingredients:

  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Turkey Sausage, chopped
  • ¼ Red Bell Pepper, chopped
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • Salt and Pepper

In a pan on medium heat, brown the turkey sausage. Then, add the chopped red bell pepper and cook until it’s soft. In a small bowl, beat two eggs. If you want silky eggs, add a splash of milk. Next, add salt and pepper to the egg mixture before pouring it over the turkey and peppers. Take a spatula and carefully push the eggs toward the center of the pan. Work all the way around the pan until there is no liquid left. Turn off the heat and gently fold the eggs until all the uncooked parts become firm. Finally, top with sliced avocado.

And there you have it, five different tasty breakfast dishes that will keep you full till lunchtime. It helps to prepare (wash, cut, defrost, etc.) the ingredients that you will be using the night before. These dishes are much more balanced than even the most nutritious granola bar and are filled with protein, fruits and vegetables that provide the best natural fuel for your body.
