Although she’s been around since 2012 with her debut album Is Your Love Big Enough?, Lianne La Havas seems to have slipped under the radar the last couple of years. But we haven’t forgotten her. You may remember that we featured her as one of the eight female rockers you should be listening to.
Born in London and currently residing there, she is now on tour in North America to promote her album Blood. The album, which was released in August of this year, has given her a lot of attention in this part of the world.
In an interview with Fuse, she mentioned how touring in the United States has been a worthwhile experience for her thanks to all her new and welcoming fans.
“Whenever I leave my home country, I feel in a strange way more free because no one necessarily knows you, so you can almost just do what you want. I do feel very welcome here and I’m lucky enough to have a very nice audience here, from what I’ve experienced in the past,” La Havas said. “They’re very, very cool people and very forthcoming with their appreciation. And I love traveling, so it is a great perk of the job, just getting to come here and hang out.”
In an interview with Market Wired, she stated that the inspiration for her latest album came from her Greek and Jamaican heritage. She wrote the tracks while traveling to Jamaica last year with her mother where she met many long lost relatives. Many of the songs on there were inspired by La Havas trying to connect with her roots. In the same interview, she mentioned the songs are all related to “the feeling of who you are and where you are from.” So, it’s not a surprise that she’s said her parents’ diverse taste in music influences her folky and soulful style.
