We know that college is hard. No more cooked meals, no more extra time to hit the gym and everyone is looking to party. It’s almost time to go back to school and get back on task with not only studies but health as well. Here are four great habits to pick up!
Stop Pulling All-Nighters
We know that college life can be busy, but stray away from cramming all night for a test.
Lack of sleep takes a toll on your body which could result in snacking on unhealthy foods that lead to weight gain. We also begin to rely on caffeine that gives us temporary energy and then a sudden crash. All-nighters may not even be worth it. You won’t retain all of that information in one night. Save your mind and body by studying gradually. Do not procrastinate as your diet and health will suffer.Drink Water
“Alcohol and weight gain are like peanut butter and jelly, you just can’t have one without the other!” This goes for all beverages like soda, believe it or not. Your main drink of choice should be water. Water not only helps with weight loss but it also flushes out toxins and bacteria that may cause kidney stones and UTIs. This is probably one of the most important habits to pick up. Don’t enjoy the taste of water? Add fruits to add flavor!
Get Active
The amazing part about college is that there are many ways to get moving that don’t require an actual workout at the gym. Of course we encourage getting on a workout regimen, walking or biking to class more often instead of driving or joining one of the sports teams or picking up an intramural sport on campus are great ways to get fit.
There are a few benefits to playing sports that go even beyond physical health.Eat Healthy
Let’s face it, dorm eating involves microwaved foods and potato chips. There’s ways around that! Tuna lasts forever and is a good way to get omega-3 and protein. Fruits and vegetables last awhile, so eating them raw is a healthy snack or buying them frozen in steam bags works awesome as a side. Your college cafeteria should be loaded with salad bars, chicken and other options that stray you away from fries, burgers and junk food. Stay Strong!
Keep an open mind and remain strong. College is tough and busy and staying healthy will be a challenge. It’s hard work to keep up with good habits, but it can be done.
