Whether you’re going apple picking or taking a stroll in the park to admire the changing colors of the leaves, you need just the right music to match the mood and the season.
With summer comes the upbeat music and tunes to hype you up for a party at the beach, but now as fall rolls around and summer is just a memory, it’s time for cooler weather, cardigans, boots, everything pumpkin flavored, and of course a more chilled down set of songs.
No matter what activity you choose to do this fall season, we’ve got you covered with a list of recent releases that’ll make for the ultimate autumn playlist.
Lana Del Rey – Honeymoon
Known for her dark and sorrowful love songs, Del Rey continues the theme in her latest album. Although she has a song titled “High By the Beach,” it has a nostalgic feel to it, which is perfect for the transition into the new season. Be sure to give “Music to Watch Boys To” a listen as well.
Beirut – No No No
The latest album from this Santa Fe indie band popular for fusing elements of world music into their songs is the ideal album for when you’re going a date with that special someone this fall. Listen to “August Holland” and “No No No.”
CHVRCHES – Every Eye Open
This album by the Scottish electronic band is another one of those albums to wind down to after a stressful day at school or work. There’s just something alluring about Lauren Mayberry’s voice that makes you want to listen this time of the year. Give “Make Them Gold” a listen.
Beach House – Depression Cherry
This album by the pop duo will be sure to hypnotize you this autumnal season. With their album’s melodic and dreamy sound, this is the perfect album to listen to while you’re relaxing after a long day hiking through the woods or if you’re just enjoying a cup of warm cider on your porch while watching the leaves fall. Listen to “Levitation” and “Space Song.”
Run the Jewels – Meow the Jewels
Just because it’s getting colder outside doesn’t mean all the music you listen to this season has to be slower and more serious. That’s why I’m recommending the rap duo’s remixed version of their original album, which has all the same songs but with cat sounds and meowing in the background. If you haven’t already listened to the album, I know what you’re thinking. The concept may sound ridiculous, but it works oh so well, and who doesn’t love cats?
Kurt Vile – B’lieve I’m Goin’ Down
Whether it is the reminiscent crooning similar to that of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan, there’s just something about this album that makes it perfect for the shift from summer to fall. Give it a spin on your next road trip and listen to “Pretty Pimpin.” The song’s catchy guitar riff and chorus will be sure to get stuck in your head while cruising down the highway.
