Exes. We love to hate em, and hate to love em… and they probably love to hate us back.
Available in all shapes, sizes and flavors of crazy, exes can be a real pain in the you know what. If your breakup didn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth, you might be asking yourself the age old question: “Can I be friends with my ex?
”If you’re asking me, no. Unless you’re able to forget you used to sleep with this person on a regular basis and see them naked (probably a lot), then I’m sorry Charlie but the future’s looking fairly bleak for a friendship.
BUT ALI, you say, I KNOW SOMEONE WHO’S FRIENDS WITH THEIR EX! Sigh. There’s always that someone whose cousin’s best friend’s sister is able to go against all things thought to be logical and somehow remain friends with an ex.
It’s fair to say that each relationship is unique and nothing is impossible. (Except morphing into a tiger whenever you feel like it). So if you’re willing to risk heartbreak and/or developing a hatred for your ex (and potentially yourself), here are a few pointers for entering the belly of the beast known as trying to befriend your ex.
Ask yourself: are you over your ex?
But seriously, if you see him with another girl are you going to lose it?
Do you have ulterior motives for wanting to remain friends?
Cutting off contact is a must. If you’re still texting him and stalking his Instagram every day you’re probably not on the right road to Bestiesville.
Try to act cool when you see your ex out, but don’t act normal. Because normal is acting like a couple… which you aren’t anymore, remember.
Don’t bring up the past.
And finally, know when to throw in the towel and move on. Some things just aren’t in the cards.
