The Best Sites For Selling Your Clothes

So you’ve cleaned out your closet and your clothes are now sorted into neat piles of keep, donate and toss. You’ve hung up your keep pile and threw away the toss pile but aren’t so sure what to do with the donate pile. You could take it to your local thrift store and donate it or take it to a local shop that buys back clothes, but setting up an account to sell your clothes online might be the most rewarding choice.

POSHMARK

During the past year, I signed up for an account with Poshmark. It’s super easy to use and fun, whether you’re looking to buy or sell your clothes. Once you setup your account, take and post pictures of the items you are trying to sell. Poshmark recommends you list the items at half the price you paid for them. Users within the Poshmark community will also host “parties” where you can share your item to generate more user interest. Once an item you sell is bought, Poshmark will send you a shipping label via email so you don’t have to pay to ship the item you’re selling (the buyer actually pays this cost). The only downside is you don’t get 100% of your profits. Poshmark takes a 20% commission.

THE REALREAL

The RealReal is great because you can sell more than just clothes and accessories. While some sites won’t allow you to sell men’s clothing, the RealReal does along with art, decor and more. A downside to the site is it focuses more on high end clothing and items, but if that is something you have or something you are looking for then it could be the perfect fit. Like Poshmark, the RealReal takes a portion of your sales—40 percent to be exact.

SNOBSWAP

SnobSwap is another awesome option for selling clothing. With SnobSwap, you’ll upload your items for sale and site officials will review the items, clean up the pictures and set them up to be sold. According to the site, this could take up to 48 hours to complete. They take a 15% commission from your sales but basically do the marketing work for you by finding a buyer. Once a sale is made, the money you earn can be directly deposited into your bank account.

THREADFLIP

If you want a site that will do most of the work for you, Threadflip is the site to check out. When you sign up for an account, they will send you a prepaid box to ship all your unwanted clothes in. Threadflip’s team will work to sell your clothes for you. However, if this worries you, there is the option of listing your clothes on your own, much like Poshmark. As with the previous sites listed, Threadflip will take a cut of your profits. Their fee is 20%, regardless of if you’re selling the clothes yourself or having Threadflip do it for you.

TRADESY

Tradesy is similar to Poshmark. You take the photos of the clothes and sell them yourself. The site helps you out with the shipping by sending you a shipping label, like Poshmark, and a kit for every item you sell. As an added bonus, they deal with returns so you don’t have to. Tradesy also will help you with your photos to make them look the best they can. Much like the other sites, Tradesy takes their cut of the profits, but it’s the lowest of the four other sites listed at only 9%. However, a downside of the site is it typically sells higher end items and not your everyday, Forever 21-type clothing.
