Sometimes we just need to be alone.
We all need “our spot” where we can read, study, work or meditate. While many like to stay in the comforts of their own home or office, sometimes it’s nice to get away. Beyond being in a different place, a home away from home or a job can provide a revitalizing sense of focus.
Here are five places to consider if you’re trying to find “your spot.”
Under a Tree
Whether it’s in your own background, in the woods or a park, it’s relaxing to just be able to sit down, take in nature and get some shade. Use Rory from Gilmore Girls as inspiration. She had her tree at Yale up until someone else took it—and then she finally retrieved it.
A Rooftop
One of my personal favorite spots to focus, there’s just something serene about working behind the backdrop of the open sky and the city skyline. If you’re an early bird, try getting to the top of a roof before sunrise to watch the sun come up while you meditate or read.
A Coffee Shop
Cute cafés and coffee shops will always be the classic spot to focus and study. Although some may be a little crowded with other people, a little background noise adds a nice touch. Plus, there’s always the coffee and yummy pastries to help keep you awake and give you energy.
By a Body of Water
And by body of water I mean the beach, lake or river, depending on where the closest one is to you. While these may not be the most ideal spots when winter rolls around, there are three other seasons. Don’t forget a towel or blanket, and enjoy the sound of the water or crashing waves while you get some work done.
A Library
It’s probably no surprise that this is on the list, but libraries exist for a reason and you’d be surprised at how many people don’t utilize the space. There are books for you to read and plenty of tables to choose from. If you’re lucky and interested in exploring, you can find hidden corners of the library that people haven’t scoped out yet.
