Have you ever stood in front of your closet in despair, looking through all your clothes and going “I have nothing to wear!” despite all the outfits staring back at you? Well, you’re not alone!
It’s something you might not realize until you graduate and enter the real world.
In college, the lazier ones amongst us could get away with our usual combination of sweatshirt/t-shirt and jeans with sneakers throughout the entire year. Unless you intend to spend the rest of your life working from home, revamping your wardrobe is a must.There are some wardrobe staples every woman should have, and with these as a base, choosing an outfit for work each morning will be a no-brainer.
White Button-Down Shirt
Wear it with black trousers for more professional settings, but pair it with some jeans for a more informal look. It looks great on its own though and you can also wear it with a cardigan or blazer depending on where you go.
Black Trousers
A definite wardrobe staple and one that can you can wear with just about anything else. Be sure to choose a length that complements the shoes or heels you usually wear to get the best results.
Little Black Dress
The ideal little black dress should be one that provides a seamless transition from day to night. Pair it with a cardigan and flats during the day and switch it up with some heels and jewelry at night. The wide range of styles available (like sleeveless, cap sleeve, v-neck, and boat neck) ensures that there’s something for everyone.
Fitted Jeans
Every woman should have a pair of jeans that show off her legs. With everything from skinny to flare jeans on shelves, it’s not difficult to find a pair that will flatter your body shape and size.
Pencil Skirt
Not only do they do a fantastic job highlighting your figure, but they’re also extremely versatile as well! You can never go wrong with black, but choosing skirts with patterns and stylish prints can add a touch of color to an ordinary office look.
Trench Coat
The classic beige trench coat is timeless and can be worn throughout the year. What’s great is that it can be worn with literally anything, casual or formal.
Black Pumps
Whether it’s jeans, dress pants, or skirts, this is the shoe that’s guaranteed to match it. Be sure to choose a well-fitted, comfortable pair because you’ll be wearing them a lot.
That being said, making your outfits more work-friendly doesn’t mean breaking the bank. For example, while Burberry is still undeniably #1 when it comes to trench coats, stores such as H&M and Zara offer equally fashionable choices for a fraction of the price. You just have to keep an eye out for similar alternatives.
