Four Brands That Give Back

If you love shopping as much as we do, then you’ll love these four companies that donate a portion of their proceeds to charities they support.

Yes, you can shop and feel good about yourself. It’s a dream come true, right? These four brands sell delicious-smelling body products, shoes, accessories and even eyeglasses.

TOMS

Since its founding in 2006, the company has donated more than 35 million pairs of shoes in over 60 countries to children in need. Blake Mycoskie created TOMS Shoes after seeing kids without shoes that protected their feet completely in Argentina. The brand started selling their classic slip ons and now have expanded to cordones, botas, wedges, stitchouts and wrap boots.

In 2011, TOMS Eyewear was launched in collaboration with Giving Partners. Buying a pair of glasses can help restore a person’s sight either through sight-saving surgery (cataract surgery), giving them prescription glasses or administering medical treatment.

And just this year, TOMS Roasting Co. was launched. The company provides one week of clean water to a person in need for every bag of coffee purchased. TOMS has you covered from your morning coffee to footwear and you’ll be giving shoes, eyesight or water to someone in need at the same time.

LUSH Cosmetics

With body products that smell so good you’ll want to eat them, LUSH has taken over the beauty world with all-natural, handmade cosmetics. In 2007, they created Charity Pot, a hand and body lotion. 100% of the proceeds (minus the taxes) goes toward funding both local and global humanitarian, environmental and animal rights causes. Since then, Charity Pot has donated almost $3 million dollars and has inspired the invention of FUN, a moldable, multi-purpose soap.

The soap, which looks like a roll of clay, comes in a rainbow of colors with different scents. It can be used as a soap, shampoo and bubble bath. 2.5% of the sales of each roll of FUN goes directly toward their LUSH FunD, which supports grassroots charities. The charities focus on creating safe playgrounds for children in Japan, who are unable to play outside because the air is still contaminated from the 2011 earthquake. By buying LUSH products, not only will you be smelling good, but you’ll be doing good too.

FEED

The company’s mission is simple: “create good products that help feed the world.” In 2007, Lauren Bush founded FEED and created the FEED 1 Bag, a reversible burlap bag with FEED the children of the world and the number 1 stamped on the front of it. The one signified that with each bag purchased it would provide enough meals to feed one child in school for one year. The FEED 1 Bag is now available in a multitude of colors and styles. FEED also sells apparel and accessories.

Every FEED product has a measurable donation. For example, buying the FEED 5 Bracelet will provide five school meals. So far, through the proceeds collected from the sales of FEED products, 85 million meals have been provided globally through the World Food Programme (WFP) and Feeding America. FEED has also formed successful partnerships with companies, such as Target, Disney, Gap and Tory Burch to name a few. The company has also started the FEED Foundation, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to supporting programs and organizations around the globe that are fighting to end world hunger and malnutrition. Buy quality products and know that there is one less child out there going to bed hungry because of you.
