I’ve been working full-time now for barely more than a year.
While I know there’s still so much for me to learn, I feel like this past year has taught me so much about work, life and myself. Here’s some of the things I’ve come to realize during this time frame.
- You can’t always expect someone to pat you on the back every time you do something right or meet a goal. Maybe in college your professors, friends, colleagues or bosses would congratulate you or even award you somehow. This doesn’t happen quite as often when you start working full-time. But, you should always feel proud when you accomplish something, regardless if anyone tells you “good job” or not and regardless of how big or small the task.
- Stay motivated. Don’t get in a comfortable spot once you feel you’ve really set the bar for yourself. Set goals for yourself on top of the ones your business/company sets for you. What do you want to get out of the job? Stay away from any negative energy in the workplace and remember what your goals are and why you took the job in the first place.
- Like most things in life, you get what you give. Work hard, enjoy your work, appreciate your boss(es) and colleagues and you’ll be happy.
- Your job doesn’t define you. Especially not your very first job. It’ll only get better from here.
