April Girl Crush: Jourdan Dunn

Fashion model, mother and upcoming designer—at 24, Jourdan Dunn is a force to be reckoned with.

She’s walked in 75 shows in one season, has graced the cover of Vogue twice and is currently living her dream of being the face of Maybelline. Jourdan is one indefatigable young woman and we’re proud to name her our Girl Crush.

The Makings of a Cover Girl

Jourdan, who had always been conscious about her height and weight, took an interest in modeling after watching America’s Next Top Model. In 2006, she was scouted by a modeling agent while shopping with a friend in a London Primark. Jourdan was later signed to Storm Model Management at 15. Soon after, she began booking jobs with top designers and made her catwalk debut in Marc Jacob’s autumn/winter 2007 show. She has also fronted campaigns for high-end brands including YSL Beauty, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Balmain, Maybelline, H&M, Topshop, DKNY and Tommy Hilfiger.

A Model on a Mission

After discovering that her son Riley had sickle cell anemia, Jourdan wanted to raise awareness about the rare disease and began devoting her time to various charities. She was a vocal advocate for the Sickle Cell Society before starting her own charity, Cell for Gratitude. This past February, Jourdan hosted the second bi-annual Cell for Gratitude event, whose attendees included fellow models Jacquelyn Jablonski, Toni Garrn, Arlenis Sosa and Karlie Kloss, who also happens to be Riley’s godmother.

What’s Next

Just last month, Jourdan confirmed a licensing deal with Fluid World, taking on a new role as a fashion designer.

She will be launching a clothing line for children and young adults. The talented lady is extremely excited about it, telling Vogue she can now make the “coolest clothes for [her] son.” The clothing line is set to release two collections at the moment. Aside from starting her clothing line, Jourdan also wants to pursue an acting career and eventually land a role that would “push [her], to surprise people and make them take [her] seriously.”
