Why You Should Get An Early Start On Your New Year’s Resolutions

How many of us all promise to shed fifteen pounds or make straight A’s on New Year’s?

Chances are, if you’re like us, or just normal, this is definitely the case. After all, what’s a better time to create a whole new life for yourself than at the start of a new year?

New calendar, new classes, new everything; it seems like the ideal time to start those life-changing goals. However, with the average individual ditching their New Year’s resolutions by week three, it seems that our motivation to change our lives in the start of the New Year is short-lived.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to wait till the ball drops at midnight to start changing your life, you can start right now. Instead of munching away on junk food or procrastinating on your studies while you simultaneously tell yourself that you’ll develop good habits next year, take action today. It’s tough to study when there’s fun holidays ahead and it’s just as challenging to stay away from sweets during Christmas, but getting a jumpstart on your New Year’s resolutions is definitely doable.

Start by writing down some realistic goals you have for yourself.
Whether you want to lose a few pounds or you want to write in your journal daily, there’s lots of ways that you can start working towards your goals. Identifying them is the first step to taking action during these upcoming weeks to work towards self-improvement.

Once you’ve identified your goals, it’s time to start chasing them.
Wake up thirty minutes earlier than usual to get yourself to the gym or schedule in some much-needed study time to help boost your grades. Whatever your goals are, start working towards them in small, manageable steps. Progress takes time, so don’t expect miracles to happen overnight so give yourself some time to accomplish your goals.

After you get started working towards your resolutions, be sure to keep it going.
It’s so easy to skip a day at the gym or to blow off one studying session but those decisions often have snowball effects that can radically derail your goals and hopes. Once you make something a habit, it’ll be that much easier to achieve your resolutions.

Making the conscious decision to start your New Year’s resolutions now results in habit-forming behavior that will carry on throughout this upcoming New Year. Don’t allow fall into the trap of ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’ mindset but take action today to meet your goals and self-improve.
