You’ve read about our active date ideas for spring, but if you’re looking for something a little more low-key that lets you enjoy the beautiful weather, why not try a picnic?
With just a little bit of planning, you’ll be able to have the perfect picnic date.
Location
Location is important when planning a picnic.
Choose somewhere that offers a good view, but also isn’t too crowded. A local park, beach or historical area are all good choices. For some entertainment while you picnic, you may want to try a local sports field too. To get some exercise in while you head to your picnic spot, you can hike to the top of a hill or small mountain for a great view at the top while you eat. If you don’t know where to hike in your area, try alltrails.com. You can search trails by town, length and difficulty. If it unexpectedly rains on the day you planned to picnic, don’t worry. Your living room can be a stand-in picnic spot. Just set up everything as you would outside, and add some candles for romance and ambiance.Food
When packing for a picnic, finger foods are your best bet. Their small size and mess-free style make clean up a breeze, and won’t weigh you down on your way to your picnic spot. Try sandwiches, chips and fresh cut veggies and fruits, or make your own cheese board with plenty of crusty bread. Chocolate or cookies are easy and simple dessert options. Pair it all with some single serve wine like Copa Di Vino, juice or soda. To keep things cool, freeze water bottles. They’ll melt just in time for you to drink them when you’re done with your meal! Pack it all up in a basket or cooler tote (we love this one from Igloo) and you’re set to eat.
Activities/Games
Plan a few simple activities to keep you busy at your picnic before and after eating. Bocce ball or Frisbee are fun and super portable games that can be played with only two people. If you’re tired, you could lay and watch the clouds (or stargaze if you decide to do a nighttime picnic), or sit and relax while listening to music. Going for a post-meal stroll is a great option, especially if you decide to picnic on the beach or in a park.
What To Bring With You
Don’t forget the essentials! First and foremost, make sure you bring a big comfy blanket to sit on. If the ground is damp, you could also bring a tarp to put underneath the blanket to keep the moisture from soaking through. Bring sunscreen and bug spray to keep you sunburn and bug bite free, and pack a few trash bags and wet wipes to help with clean up.
