What Your Skin Is Telling You

Have you ever noticed that you tend to break out in the same areas of your face?

Could it be a string of bad luck or is your skin actually trying to tell you something?

Experts say where acne breaks out on the face may relate to what is going on inside of the body. According to dermalogica.

co.uk, by using face mapping, the “skin provides an outside view into the body’s internal health.”

By dividing your face into sections it’s easy to see what your acne may be telling you.

Digestive system – If your forehead area tends to break out this could be an issue with your digestive system or bladder. To correct this, drink plenty of water. Doing this can flush out any bad toxins inside of your body. Eating right and exercising should also always be a priority as it will not only make you feel better, but it also will help your skin.

Liver – Breaking out between your eyebrows can relate back to your liver. Reasons this may be happening is because of excessive alcohol use and greasy or dairy-related food consumption. Getting a few good nights rest can help to clear up your skin.

Kidneys – If the sides of your face (including your ears) are breaking out it could be issues related to your kidneys. Cut down on stimulated beverages such as alcohol and coffee. It could be that you aren’t drinking enough water, so drink up!

Heart – Acne on your nose could be signs of heart issues. To fix this, check your blood pressure levels, or even track them if need be. Introduce healthy fats into your diet, such as avocados and nuts.

If you’re breaking out just below your nose (on your upper lip) try switching up the lipstick or chapstick you’re using. And it’s also important to make sure you are removing your makeup every night.

The Lungs – Breaking out on your cheeks can be looked at as your respiratory system. This can be caused by anything from smoking to breathing polluted air. Make sure you are getting some fresh air everyday. It also can be caused by continually sleeping on the same pillow or talking on the phone. Make sure to wash and disinfect those, respectively, on a regular basis.

Dental – Breaking out on your lower cheeks, however, can be a different story. This can be a tell tale sign of what’s going on inside your mouth. To prevent breakouts here, make sure you are going to your dentist twice a year and flossing and brushing your teeth regularly.

Hormonal – For women, this simply means you may be getting (or already have gotten) your period. What’s interesting about it, however, is depending on the side of your face you break out on, that’s actually which ovary is ovulating for that month. To help reduce this acne, drink plenty of fluids and get lots of exercise. In addition to that, try not to eat before you go to bed and eat a clean diet.

Stomach – Breaking out on your chin will give you a look into your stomach. This can be caused by stress and a poor diet. Make sure you are watching what you’re eating. And read our article on ways to reduce the stress you may have in your life.

Stress – Neck acne can also be a sign of stress. Try exercising regularly or doing an activity such as painting your nails or knitting to help distract from the more pressing issues at hand. It also could be from the perfume you wear. Try switching it up and see if the acne clears up.
